As Summer creeps up on us and the strains placed on municipal services become more and more obvious, we notice a resurgence of spouts calling for consolidation of services. Winter or Summer, there is no logical excuse that the barrier islands maintain duplicate services. Even if the political atmosphere in the towns prevent overall consolidation of government, it is foolish to not consolidate essential services. That would produce higher levels of efficiency and cost effectiveness. There are hundreds of success stories throughout the country where regional police, fire, and EMS services exist.
