The majority of the money that J-1 students make during the summer is spent locally and/or in the U.S. They all live here during the summer and contribute to our local economy by buying food, clothing, electronics, etc. After the summer season, just about all of them travel across the U.S. for several weeks, spending their money in the U.S. Very few J-1 students take money back to their home country.
