Defunding the police is not abolishing the police. Defunding is increasing efficiency, fairness and accountability, demilitarizing the police force, reinvesting portions of the budget into communities that have been divested, ending mass incarceration, etc. The NYPD experimented with this a few years ago and showed less proactive policing coincided with less crime. There will still be 911, there will still be police. And with a wide range of reforms, the conditions that encourage people toward crime will be lessened, and so will crime. Don’t give in to fear mongering, self-educate.
