Mayor Beck stated it correctly in the Press July 6 that the township does not have the funds for full-time enforcement of dog laws. Residents need to be more proactive and call the police if they see dogs off leash. The township tried unsuccessfully in 2009 to ban dogs from the beaches but the residents protested then as well. If police were stationed there a couple days a week, the message would spread quickly. People are afraid of the police but they are not and never have been deterred by animal control. The new animal control company is doing a great job in the township, but need police.
