Stone Harbor - Fishing is bad here because the three nuclear power plants on the Delaware Bay are cooled by pulling in billions and billions of gallons of seawater, and fish and larvae and eggs daily. The fish and forage fish, (small baitfish the big fish eat), are all killed, as are thousands of turtles and sea birds. The Delaware Bay was full of fish in the 70s and early 80s, and now is empty of fish. This hurts our economy, and our enjoyment. These plants should be closed.
Moderator's Note:
Some share this Spouter's view; others report fishing is better near such plants; others say fishing - though different perhaps - is unaffected overall. Perhaps it depends on what you're fishing for. Closing power plants, until and unless we've replaced them, is also bad for our economy and our enjoyment. It's an issue which merits discussion ... like this one. Thank you!
