To the question of why a very expensive new beach patrol building for use that can be counted in hours per year, the answer is callousness. If I had a nickel for every politician in this town that has uttered some version of “it’s not like we lack money”. But we do. It’s the reason they fastballed the public works debacle behind closed doors, to be able to sell the land to replenish their empty coffers. All tax dollars are paid by citizens and should be treated in a serious manner.
