Team Van Drew, the statewide Child Welfare Report in the June 6 Press reports that Cape May County is 19th, Atlantic 20th, and Cumberland 21st in the entire state. Lack of full-time jobs, a declining year-round population, and a declining median income have all produced more social services for the elderly and for the increasing numbers of children in poverty. These dead last statistics produce a reduced quality of life, declining property values, and more crime for everyone who can maintain a foothold here.
