North Wildwood - I understand all the spouts about consolidation on Five Mile Island and I, myself agree in principle but know it will not be done. What we need to do instead, which is the next best choice and not optimal, is "shared services" for police, fire, lifeguards and public schools. For the 3,000 winter residents on the island, we only need one chief of police, one fire chief and one school superintendent. The three beach patrols should have three captains reporting to one fire chief. This would be a good start for reduction of duplicate cost for a small island with a small winter population.
