We should not continue beach replenishment and federal flood insurance out of fear that it would hurt tourism. Not everyone here relies on tourism anyway and many would like a smaller, local population if tourism faded. If people want to live near the beach, pay the higher, private insurance premium. Let the beach towns fund beach replenishment themselves. The beaches will always be there to attract tourists. Let people build at their own risk. If a storm wipes them out, let them rebuild at their own expense.
