I was newly married and in my senior year of college on September 11, 2001. My husband was working at a local factory in Indiana, while my parents and siblings were closer to the tragedy in the DC and Pennsylvania area. I remember waking up for a later class and trying to understand what was happening. I felt like danger was suddenly everywhere and just wanted to know if my family was safe. The relief of hearing my mom say they were okay was enormous, but it was mixed with disbelief and fear. I had always felt safe in my country, and that sense of safety was shaken that day.
