Court House - I have been a long time patron and volunteer of the non-profit Animal Welfare Society in Dias Creek up until I discovered that their treasurer, a board member and another individual all have been living there as residents at the expense of the public donations they receive. I am appalled and disgusted by this. I also recently discovered they have nearly $2 million in their coffers. Now, I understand how they can afford to give these "perks" to these individuals.

Moderator's Note:
We looked into claims that the Animal Welfare Society of Dias Creek has an officer of the non-profit, a board member, and another individual misusing donations for their own personal use. The organization is completely run by volunteers and there are many animals to care for. When the spouter says that individuals are "living up there," we assume he/she means spending time on the property overnight, etc. That may be, but we have no evidence of it. Of course, no one is going to admit maleficence, but the word we have from one person who used to volunteer there is that someone may spend the evening on the property to care for the animals, but no one we could find says anyone "lives" there as a permanent residence. We doubt anyone is doing anything remotely like what the spouter says. We would also be surprised if the organization had "$2 million in their coffers." Founded in 1980 as the county's first "no-kill" shelter, the facility was closed by the state in 2006 for many problems caused largely by overcrowding and a lack of funds. It only reopened in 2011 after significant renovations supported by donations. We find it hard to believe that they had the funds for those renovations and still have $2 million tucked away.
