Ideally, politicians should have a certain amount of wisdom beyond the average voter and the desire to work for the people and not primarily for their own gain. In the same vein, people should not rely on politicians for their happiness. A lot of problems that people face are a result of their own action or inaction and to find a scapegoat to blame or someone in power to rescue them is irresponsible and childish. If we take care of our own households, the political arena may be a little less hostile.
