Cape May - Why is Cape May banning smoking on its beaches without designating areas where smoking is allowed, as state law permits? Smoking is a very strong addiction. If smokers can't smoke on the beach, they'll find the closest place where they can smoke. Smoking is allowed on the promenade, so smokers will congregate on the promenade at the entrances to the beach. People entering and exiting the beaches will be walking through a fog of secondhand smoke all day long. I believe Wildwood Crest has the right idea by designating smoking areas on the beach far from the beach entrances.
