Cape May - We have all used the expression, "I was robbed," but using that term when criticizing police performance is not really accurate. A robbery is a person to person crime involving stealing something with the use of force or threat. A burglary is breaking into someone's house, garage, car, etc. to steal something. Theft is taking things that don't belong to you. Police reaction to a robbery (armed or not) and stealing coins out of the ashtray of an unlocked car is understandably different. Theft is the most frequently committed crime.
Moderator's Note:
We could not corroborate the spouter's statement that "theft is the most frequently committed crime."
