I work for a private company that does some work for the federal government. If I charged five dollars over the government approved hotel rate for a single night, the government manager would either void the invoice or request a five-dollar credit. If the government manager told me to stay at his hotel, invoice over $1,000 and he would pay the invoice, the government manager would be going to jail. Fortunately, most government workers hold themselves to a higher standard than elected officials. Despite some bad apples, we have a lot of good people in the government that know right from wrong.
