In response to a letter writer's claim that Clinton's budget surplus was "only good for the government" and was the "result of over-taxation:" Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics show the following: 22.7 million jobs were created during Clinton's eight years in office, an average of more than 2.8 million a year. Compare that to a paltry 140,000 per year under George W. Bush. In fact, more jobs were created per year under Democratic presidents Carter and Clinton than per year under Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush.
