Moderator's Note: It seems that there is a lot of misunderstanding about the money sent to Iran in 2016. Some research helped with the confusion.The Obama administration transferred about $1.7 billion total to Iran.$4oo million was for military equipment ordered by the Shah before the revolution which we did not deliver because of a new enemy regime. $1.7 was delivered which included principal plus interest, after a long dispute at the Hague. It was a settlement of an old debt, not taxpayers money. This was helpful to understand what seemed like a very wrong way to deal with a regime who called the US "The Great Satan "
