Ocean City - In a spout about vandalized cars, an Avalon spouter asked why the police did not fingerprint the cars? Cars parked outdoors in the weather quite often don't yield usable fingerprints. Unlike what TV would lead us to believe, there is no magic fingerprint database. The only prints in the database are those of persons who have been arrested or applied for certain jobs. The fact that somebody may have touched the outside of one of even several cars falls far short of proof that they vandalized any of those cars. In many ways, TV gives us false impressions of how police solve crimes.
