Why are folks shining bright lights/floodlights from their homes

Villas - Why are folks shining bright lights/floodlights from their homes onto the beach? It is blinding to those of us who love to walk on our wild beaches at night stargazing. It is also disruptive to wildlife (bats) and sealife that may be nesting or spawning on beaches. I would love to see the people of Villas work toward being an International Dark Sky community, like Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Lights are available that shine down instead of up and out, but please, can we turn off lights when we are gone or sleeping? Light pollution is not the answer to crime, supportive neighbors are!
