Avalon - We are a constitutional republic not a democracy. A pure democracy would rely solely on the popular vote totals which would dramtically skew toward the blue states with the largest cities virtually rendering the votes from the smaller rural states meaningless. In my view the electoral system was genius, as was the idea of giving every state 2 senators regardless of population.
