I am a dog lover and a science believer. But I am puzzled why we frivolously spend so much money “healthy” dog food. My dogs over the years have helped themselves to deer, rabbit and even mouse carcasses. They have stolen chocolate cake, cold cuts and porter house steaks off my counters. They all remained healthy, some even living beyond their normal life expectancy. They were fed dry and sometimes boiled chicken innards, cooked beef and occasionally left over fish. I love dogs, and would never hurt one. But in a country with starving humans I think it is wrong to pay 10% of our grocery bill on dog food.
