When African slaves were emancipated, they became Americanized Africans, or African American. Since then, the descendants of those freed slaves were born in America and were hence Americans. Therefore, "African American" no longer makes sense. It just serves to further fan the flames of racial discord. If the term were still preferable by a majority of black Americans, then the United Negro College Fund and the NAACP would have changed "Negro" and "Colored People" to "African American(s). Think about that. We were all created by God, and apparently, He loves variety.
