This state has made another knee jerk reaction when it passed the new version of the pedestrian 'right of way' law. The poor woman whose death inspired the law may have been able to prevent her death with more attentiveness. Tragedies do not have to engender laws that make things more dangerous. Thousands of pedestrians and hundreds of misinformed cyclists now just stride across our streets without bothering to stop, look and listen. In congested and sometimes confusing summer traffic this is a recipe for disaster.
