I applaud the Crest for hiring a police director while without a chief, but from a taxpaying perspective, why do we even need to hire a police chief? Many towns are replacing police chief positions with police director positions, which are not tied to union labor agreements and are saving towns money. We are a small resort town with a small winter population and a small crime rate thanks to the everyday patrol officers. The police captain can report to the public safety director and we can eliminate the chief of police position, saving us taxpayers more than $100,000+ a year.
