Please take note that it is illegal for a landlord to perform a self eviction. They cannot lock you out nor touch your possessions without a court order. Landlords attempting to do this alone are subject to a disorderly persons offense per NJ state law. Not everyone is aware of this law. If it happens, please call and file a complaint. They cannot hold your property regardless of what may have happened. If so, make a detailed list of all belongings you may be missing. Do not fall victim. You have rights too.
