About two years ago, the county engineer was called in to examine Lafayette Street near the school and determined that the area did not need a school zone sign or a speed limit decrease. From what I have seen, every school I go by has a school zone sign with speed limits while the lights are blinking. Cars speed on Lafayette and go through the red light on Madison/Lafayette where kids need to cross to and from school. I think the county engineer needs to stand outside on any given morning and afternoon when the kids are being dropped off and picked up, and see if he feels safe.
