There is NO NEED for Rt 55, especially as a hurricane evacuation route. Hurricanes are tracked from their origin off the west coast of Africa until they make landfall, a period that lasts up to two weeks. Past experience tells us that the barrier islands become ghost towns when a hurricane threatens, because people watch the weather reports. Why should we spend billions of dollars to cover more land with asphalt when there is no need. Let those people too lazy to watch the weather reports c'mon down and compete for their very own Darwin Award.
