Wildwood Police Department wants donations to be sent to a non-p

Wildwood - Wildwood Police Department wants donations to be sent to a non-profit that has nothing to do with them. Then that non-profit will take in the money, launder it with their tax-exempt 501c3 and then make a "donation" to the police department. Does anyone else see this as a problem? The police should fund themselves through the high taxes they collect. Let that non-profit use its money for the local schools. Maybe a complaint to the IRS will clear this up.
