Wildwood - As usual, people who have no idea about deployment of police resources are offering inaccurate opinions. Speed traps, on Rio Grande Avenue or elsewhere serve several purposes; they slow traffic to a safe, manageable level, and give police a legal reason to stop lots of cars. During these stops, officers can use the opportunity to work within their legal limits to interdict drugs, guns and apprehend wanted persons. "Patrolling" drug-infested areas does not necessarily have any effect on drug trafficking as many studies have shown, but extra officers can be assigned to drug investigations.
