Franklin Roosevelt who was rejected for Spanish-American war service, did however serve as the assistant secretary of the Navy during WWI. Not all of the rest had illustrious military careers, but they put on the uniform and shared the burdens and knew the risks involved. Not one of our current crop of candidates ever spent one day in uniform. They have no direct experiential connection with the men and women they might ask to die for them. I see that as just another sign of the weakening of our country. I fear for our future.
