Wildwood - I believe Office of Emergency Management dropped the ball on one of the county's first tornado-like events in my lifetime! Why did it take so long to sound the alert, and when they did, the high winds and severe weather were already upon us? They gave little to no time to prepare for this event and with all the high-tech equipment, personnel, and taxpayer dollars, it seems someone was waiting for approval to sound the alarm. Bureaucracy as it's finest.
Moderator's Note:
According to county Office of Emergency Management (OEM), they received the first EMnet warning of severe thunderstorms and a tornado at 3:44 p.m. June 21. At the same time, the National Alert System activated which interrupts TV, radio and cell phones with the warning. OEM didn't have time to notify municipal OEM coordinators for them to do a reverse 911 or activate their sirens, as the county was already in the event.
