No one disparages military service, but the trite expression that "we owe the military our freedom" has not been true since World War II ended. Our freedom was never in jeopardy in Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon or now, in Iraq. So, yes, we thank the soldiers for their service, but American freedom has not been at risk since the times of Hitler.
