Why do spouters from Wildwood persist in calling for island cons

Wildwood Crest - Why do spouters from Wildwood persist in calling for island consolidation when they know full well it really will never happen for a variety of reasons? As far back as the 80s, studies were done showing the other island towns would receive no financial benefits from consolidating with Wildwood, and nothing since then has changed.
