I got a letter from boro hall that said I need to install addres

Wildwood Crest - I got a letter from boro hall that said I need to install address numbers on my house because it is important for fire, rescue or police to be able to find the house. Why can't they just look at my neighbor's numbers and do the simple math? It can't be that hard or maybe knock on a door or two and ask.
