Can someone please explain to me why this country doesn't simply

Wildwood Crest - Can someone please explain to me why this country doesn't simply build enough wind and solar farms to meet our energy needs? Currently, we rape the earth with mining/drilling activities and risk disaster transporting these products. Then we ruin the planet when we burn these carbons. Are big oil companies so powerful that they can prevent solar and wind power from putting them out of business? The military savings could pay for repairing our crumbling infrastructure and we'd never again lose an American life in the Middle East.
