Thomas Jefferson wrote, "Religious institutions that use government power in support of themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths, or of no faith, undermine our civil rights." This principle is considered part of the first amendment of our Constitution. The recent Louisiana law requiring the 10 Commandments be posted in public school classrooms is in flagrant disregard of and an affront to our civil liberties. On a positive, since Louisiana ranks an abysmal 41st in U.S. in literacy, the commandment posters may encourage reading, improving literacy scores down the bayou.
