More than 11,000 prison inmates were temporarily released to home confinement to avoid spreading covid-19 in prison facilities. Of those, according to the Bureau of Prisons, only 17 committed new crimes. That is a stunningly low number, and it teaches us that many of our prison sentences are unnecessarily lengthy. The United States incarcerates more of its citizens than any other country in the world.
