What is with the Wildwood Crest beaches?

Wildwood Crest / Hammonton - What is with the Wildwood Crest beaches? Instead of a beautiful ocean view, there now are ugly, man-made dunes and ponds blocking beach access. Where is one supposed to go in order to walk down to the ocean? We tried several blocks in both directions and were met with impassable mud and gullies. This was never a problem and we have been coming to the Crest for decades. Driving from street to street, parking, and walking part way down to the beach only to find it blocked is not a fun way to spend a Sunday.
