To correct a recent spouter: Police and firefighters who are paid to work in Wildwood reap enormous benefits for these positions. There is no dispute; communities need their presence. What is being debated is how much they cost. Wildwood does not have the economy or issues a full-time municipality deals with, with only 4,000 year-round residents. It cannot sustain the expense of staffing so many full-time police and fire positions. Mutual aid agreements are written for exactly these reasons. If anyone has any doubt how much it costs, just read the budget.
