West Wildwood - The police department here in the Borough is a huge tax burden. Highly paid chief, sergeant, and seven full-time officers. Add salaries, pensions, and benefits. Total of nine in the department serving about 400 year-round residents. This far exceeds the national average ratio of officers per resident. Our borough has nine officers per 400 residents for about nine months of the year. Would it not make sense to cut the full-time and supplement hire Class II officers for the summer? Big savings in salaries and they do not qualify for pension or benefits. Consolidate or cut.
