West Wildwood - Many of today’s police vehicles are equipped with “push bumpers” and have various purposes such as pushing abandoned or disabled vehicles off the roadway or clearing obstructions off the roadway. These bumpers are designed to absorb impact and reduce the damage to patrol vehicles in the case of minor collisions, thus, reducing repair costs to taxpayers. Additionally, bumpers are often equipped with lights and sirens which provide increased visibility and volume when responding to emergencies. The use of push bumpers for PIT maneuvers are less common, contrary to popular belief.
