We have six officers who are on the patrol schedule. Four of those are Class II officers working for minimum hourly wages. The state statute reads, in part, that Class II will only be used to assist, but may not be employed to replace or substitute for full-time officers or in any way diminish the number of regular certified officers employed by the dept. We have 65 percent of the dept. working as Class II; when the state catches up to this we will be required to employ regular officers at regular salary and benefits. We have to consolidate or tolerate a huge tax increase.
