Villas - I saw an interesting video about a pilot literacy program in India called TaRL, or Teaching at the Right Level. It has been very successful so far. Children at every level of reading can advance at their own pace, resulting in a sense of accomplishment. It is catching on quickly and for good reason. Our public education system has become one with a focus not so much on kids' learning but on their being taught to take and pass tests, which ultimately benefits the companies that create and market the tests to the "experts" at the Department of Education and the politicians who are paid to promote them.
