There are good cops, but also some very controlling cops when it comes to their spouses." Does this person really think that cops are any different from doctors, or truck drivers or store clerks? Being a cop is a job, and a difficult one at that. There are controlling spouses from every walk of life and profession. Too many people seem to forget that good, bad or indifferent, cops are simply humans and will have all of the good and bad traits of other humans.
