UT claims that a cannabis shop would generate 2% tax revenue for UT equaling $20,000 in revenue a month. Let's do the math. The national average cost of an ounce of pot is $265. To collect $20k in tax revenue per month, a shop would need to sell $1 million worth per month. To illustrate, an oz of pot is the size of a slice of bread. It would yield roughly 60-84 joints, so users need to smoke 2-3 joints a day, everyday. That would be 3,774 people buying an ounce of pot a month, or 125 per day. Does Ocean City want a pot shop with that much traffic at one of the gateways to their island?
