“Turtle Crossing” sign is meaningless if there’s no safe way for turtles to actually cross. The median isn’t raised, there are no barriers to guide them away from traffic, and the result is predictable. I watched a sanitation worker kick a dead turtle off the road the other day—it was heartbreaking and completely avoidable. If we truly care about protecting wildlife, let’s do more than put up signs to make people believe the city cares. Optics. Raise the median, install barriers or fencing to keep turtles off the roadway, or create safe crossing structures.
