Tuckahoe / Ocean City - Why is the Tuckahoe Fire company having a benefit? I bet it is because the amount of money they receive from public funding is not enough to sustain the expenses involved in running and equipping a modern volunteer fire company. That includes not only apparatus, tools and equipment, but also social functions and amenities that are used as incentives to make people want to participate in such a dangerous and time consuming avocation free. Without fundraising, volunteer fire companies couldn't provide the level of service that they do. Have you thought about volunteering?
