Trump claimed that his crackdown on fraud is to save taxpayers' money and help balance the budget. His claim is false. How do we know that? Because he has tried to fire , defund, or otherwise impede dozens of nonpartisan fraud investigators, including those who previously scrutinized his administration. And he has pardoned political allies who have been charged with fraud. Some of those pardons concern crimes committed by those allies that allegedly bilked Medicare and Medicaid, costing an estimate of hundreds of millions of dollars to taxpayers.
