Town Bank - People seem to think that a police officer's worth is directly related to the crime that he confronts every day. This is one small facet of police work. The small town police officer has more overall responsibility. Many roles get condensed into one individual. Find a city cop who will crawl under your house to shut off water after a pipe breaks, then spend an hour trying to track the owner down. Crime is so low because of the quality of officers we can retain. Who has a more dangerous job, the city officer who retires after 25 years, or the town officer shot in the line of duty?
