Perfect example is the hard drug problem. People thought for years that this was just a large inner city problem, but most things spread everywhere if left unchecked. Intelligent proactive people know that when one finds oneself in a hole, it is time to stop digging and reassess the situation, while the reactive ask for a bigger shovel.
